Development Associate (part time)
The Historical Society of Princeton (HSP) is a museum and educational facility dedicated to preserving and interpreting Princeton’s long and diverse history. It does so through a lively schedule of exhibitions, school programs, lectures, publications, and rich collections. The Society operates two sites, Bainbridge House in the heart of downtown Princeton, and the Updike Farmstead in Princeton Township.
HSP is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Development Associate to work closely with the Director of Development in all fundraising endeavors including: Membership, Annual Fund, Fundraising Events, and Capital Campaign. The position will be 21-24 hours per week, with a regular schedule. Hourly rate based on experience; there are no benefits offered with this position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintaining donor database
- Receiving, recording and responding to donations
- Composing correspondence
- Maintaining donor files
- Preparing donor and fundraising reports
- Writing and disseminating press releases
- Assisting with fundraising events
- Assisting with capital campaign activities
Qualifications:
- Superb written and verbal communication skills with a high-level command of grammar and spelling
- Excellent computer skills, including MS Office database, and internet; experience with Donor Perfect preferred
- Ability to work efficiently and at a fast pace
- Attention to detail, excellent organizational skills and the ability to plan, prioritize and coordinate deadlines
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Excellent interpersonal skills

Contract Grant Writer (Contract Position)
HSP is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Grant Writer (to work on a contract basis), which serves as a key member of the HSP’s fundraising team. The Contract Grant Writer is responsible for all activities related to the research, identification, writing and submission of grant proposals for private and public foundations and government grants and contracts. The position is also responsible for collecting, analyzing and reporting data on the performance of funded program activities. The Contract Grant Writer reports to the Director of Development and works collaboratively with all HSP staff.
Compensation based on experience; there are no benefits associated with this position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Write grant proposals as well as letters of inquiry, progress and final reports, and other correspondence to prospective and renewing foundations, corporations, and government agencies
- Research and identify corporate, private and public foundations, and government agencies as sources of funding for HSP education programs, special projects, exhibitions, operating, and capital projects
- Develop project-specific and general support proposals/applications/solicitations, for corporate, private and public foundations, and government prospects
- Work closely with HSP staff to create draft for funding request and narrative
- Compile, write, and edit all grant applications exhibiting strong expository writing skills and a high-level command of grammar and spelling
- Gather and prepare all materials to accompany grants (financial data, letters of support, resumes, required forms, etc)
- Maintain and update grantor/prospect records; keeping up-to-date calendar of grant/report submission deadlines
Qualifications:
- Minimum of five years experience and proven success as a Grant Writer for cultural non-profits
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
