In honor of the special relationship that Albert Einstein had with Princeton, NJ, several Princeton-based educational and cultural institutions-under the auspices and leadership of the Historical Society of Princeton banded together to create Think Einstein, a series of events celebrating the 100th anniversary of the annus mirabilis. In 1905, Albert Einstein published papers which revolutionized the concepts of time and space, energy and matter, addressing the photoelectric effect, Brownian motion, and the special theory of relativity. Around the globe during this World Year of Physics, many museums, scientific institutes, universities, libraries, towns and cities have been celebrating Einstein and his achievements through lectures, publications, exhibitions and films. As home to Einstein for over 20 years, Princeton has honored his memory with over a dozen book readings, theatrical productions, lectures and art installations. The calendar is posted on www.visitprinceton.org a website maintained by the Princeton Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Programs included:

  • A talk sponsored by the Historical Society by Rush Holt on Einstein's legacy in Princeton in January.
  • The Princeton Public Library offered an all-ages physics demonstration in March.
  • The Institute for Advanced Study hosted a full day of activities on May 20, 2005 to celebrate Einstein and the founding of the Institute on May 20, 1930; IAS also hosted Physics Quest, a contest for Jr. High students, in June.
